But what about those people, what about you, starting that new business or developing that new idea? What can you do to kick-start (pun intended!) your new venture?
Have you launched a crowdfunding campaign? Better yet, if you have, does it have a video?
Crowdfunding campaign videos are essential to your campaign. If you don’t have one, you need one!
Before we really get into why these videos are so important, let’s take a quick step back and go over a little background on crowdfunding.
The actual definition of crowdfunding, from Forbes, is “the practice of funding a project or venture by raising many small amounts of money from a large number of people, typically via the Internet”. So if you’ve got an idea, a product, whatever, you can take it to a crowdfunding platform such as Indiegogo or Kickstarter to fund it because, let’s face it, starting something is never cheap!
Your passion for whatever it is you’re doing is great, and you can be sure that you won’t get far without it, but it can only do so much. The point of crowdfunding campaigns is to share with the public why your idea is so great, and inspire them to get involved. Offering cool perks can definitely make people want to donate, if even just a small amount, but no one is going to donate anything unless you make them want to.
Explaining what you’re doing in a couple of paragraphs somewhere in your campaign is great, pictures can help, your perks are awesome… But you need more! And here we are again, back to videos!
Crowdfunding campaign videos are great because:
- They let people see you, and your passion, not just your product.
You’re description can be the most detailed thing in world, explaining exactly what it is you need funding for, but words on a page don’t show who you are. You can write, “I’m really passionate about this”, but isn’t better to show people why?
- They help you get people as excited about what you’re doing as you are.
Seeing your product in use, or seeing how passionate you are about it, can get people really pumped about getting to be a part of this new venture themselves!
- They’re more effective than text alone.
See 1 & 2… Seriously, it’s that important!
- It’s more fun to watch a video than read a bunch of text!
Would you rather ready 7 paragraphs about a new business in your city, or watch a video about how awesome it’s going to be? That’s what I thought.
- They make your campaign stand out from the crowd (pun intended, again).
A lot of crowdfunding campaigns feature videos now, but think about the ones that don’t. Do you want to launch one of those boring campaigns with only text and a couple of pictures, or would you rather be one of the great ones with a fun video for people to watch?
You’re going to go make a video to add to your campaign now, right?
